The Story of Skye

Accepting Perfection

In May of this year, Elisha and Ciaran began their journey of what would become Skye. Elisha, after having suffered from recurring injuries, decided that doctors and rehab wasn’t enough. This brought him to nutrition. He began reading labels. The more he read, the more he saw that what he was putting into his body was nothing but inflammation drivers and recovery dimmers.
Sucralose, seed oils, syrups, and gums.

Knowing exactly who to call, Elisha reached out to Ciaran. With a pre-med background, a father in functional medicine, and several successful startups under his belt, Ciaran shared his passion for health and entrepreneurship. In a world increasingly committed to clean ingredients, they discovered that products marketed to high-performing athletes were often the worst offenders – and they knew they had the power to change that.

This is where the work began. Early research and conversations with a few nutritionists led them to the macros and ingredients of Skye’s first iteration: 20 g of protein, 40 g of carbohydrates, only clean, organic ingredients. They quickly formulated a quinoa crisp using organic quinoa, dark chocolate, honey, a grass-fed whey protein and collagen blend, and sea salt – hitting exactly 20 g of protein and 40 g of carbs.

When they tested a three-week supply with select Harvard teams, it was gone in two days. Professional athletes and major sports teams also liked the samples – but Elisha and Ciaran didn’t settle for “good”; they wanted perfection.

Over the next few months, they consulted more than 20 sports nutritionists from top colleges and pro teams. One conversation stood out: Julie Nicoletti, founder of Kinetic Fuel and nutritionist for the Boston Bruins, urged them to aim for a 3 : 1 carb-to-protein ratio, with carbs capped at 30–35 g and no more than 5 g of fat. Since fat slows carbohydrate absorption, this presented a fresh challenge: reformulate with the same five ingredients but new macros.

And they did just that. Without resorting to fillers or deceptive labeling, they engineered a crisp that met these exact specifications. Now, having perfected the recipe in-house, they’re working with their manufacturer to scale up to the demand that they’ve seen – not stopping until it is perfect.
